Launch details
The Pixel Watch 5 arrived in late summer 2026, with the first full reviews published at the end of August. It comes in 41mm and 45mm sizes, with Wi-Fi or LTE. According to DC Rainmaker, the 41mm model costs $399 (Wi-Fi) or $479 (LTE) in the US; Engadget notes a $50 price increase over the previous generation. A Steph Curry special edition (LTE only) starts at $579. The processor is a boosted version of the Pixel Watch 4's chip, with 12% more CPU power and 60% more memory according to DC Rainmaker.
What reviewers agree on
- GPS: the new dual-frequency GPS, helped by Google's post-processing, is very accurate; TechRadar found it competitive with the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Garmin Fenix 8 Pro.
- Heart rate: DC Rainmaker saw "very strong performance" in running, cycling and trail tests, even though the sensor is unchanged.
- Gemini: on-device Gemini is fast and useful, although TechRadar notes it cannot yet complete tasks on its own.
- Charging and repair: it charges from empty to full in under an hour, and the screen and battery can be replaced.
- Missing features: blood pressure and insulin trend reports, a workout builder and sleep breathing analysis were promised but not ready at launch.
Where opinions differ
| Topic | Favourable view | Reserved view |
|---|---|---|
| Overall | Engadget calls it a "solid, if small, upgrade" worth the $50 increase. | Android Central cannot recommend it over the Pixel Watch 4; TechRadar sees few reasons for Watch 3 or 4 owners to upgrade. |
| Battery | Android Central and Engadget get about two days, even with sleep tracking. | TechRadar needed to charge it every day or two and calls battery life very short. |
| Sport | TechRadar praises its accuracy for hikes and runs. | DC Rainmaker points to weak basics such as manual laps and sensor pairing. |
| Health | Loss of pulse detection returns, and breathing emergency detection is new. | Breathing emergency detection works only in some European countries (Engadget), and AI coaching needs Google Health Premium. |
Scores: 9/10 from Engadget; 3.5/5 from TechRadar.

Verdict
The Pixel Watch 5 is one of the best smartwatches for Android users, with excellent tracking and a polished design, and Android Central prefers its battery life to the Galaxy Watch 9's. But it is only a small step from the Pixel Watch 4, so owners of that model can skip it, and some of its headline health features are still to come. Its health tools are wellness features, not a replacement for medical care. Samsung phone owners can read our Galaxy Watch 9 analysis.
