Price and availability

Both phones are 6.3-inch "Pro" models, and both went up by $100 this year. The Pixel 11 Pro went on sale on 20 August at $1,099 with 256 GB, with options up to 1 TB. The iPhone 18 Pro followed on 18 September at $1,199 with 256 GB, and goes up to 2 TB. Engadget gave both phones 9/10, so the choice is less about quality than about priorities and ecosystem.

Where each phone wins

  • Performance: AppleInsider describes a "considerable lead" for the A20 Pro. Tom's Guide calls the Pixel's processing power "seriously weak", with very low AI benchmark scores.
  • Battery and charging: in Tom's Guide's web-browsing test, the iPhone 18 Pro lasted almost three hours longer than the Pixel 11 Pro, which did slightly worse than the Pixel 10 Pro. The iPhone also charges much faster.
  • Display: the Pixel is brighter on paper and has a true 1–120 Hz LTPO panel, which helps outdoors.
  • Photos: Engadget says the iPhone 18 Pro offers the best camera of any iPhone and that the variable aperture "meaningfully narrowed the gap", but Pixel phones still lead for portraits and night shots. The Pixel adds a 5x telephoto and a 120x AI zoom, which Tom's Guide finds impressive; its selfies, however, trail Apple's.
  • Video: TechRepublic gives the iPhone the edge, with ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, genlock and 4K Dolby Vision at up to 120 fps.
  • AI: Gemini is central to the Pixel, and Engadget praises Rambler voice typing and Instant Night Sight. Pro buyers also get six months of Google AI Pro. On the iPhone, Engadget found the new Siri AI inconsistent, and it launched in beta, in English first.
  • Software support: Google promises seven years of updates; Apple supports iPhones for a long time but publishes no fixed commitment.

Which one should you buy?

  • You already use a Mac, an Apple Watch or AirPods: the iPhone 18 Pro. The ecosystem benefits outweigh the price difference.
  • You shoot a lot of video: the iPhone 18 Pro, for its professional video tools and 4K Dolby Vision at up to 120 fps.
  • You want the longest battery life and fastest charging: the iPhone 18 Pro, according to Tom's Guide's tests.
  • You use Gmail, Google Photos and Gemini every day: the Pixel 11 Pro, where AI features feel more mature.
  • You take portraits, night shots or zoom photos: the Pixel 11 Pro, with its 5x telephoto and strong night mode.
  • You keep a phone for many years and want certainty: the Pixel 11 Pro, with its written seven-year promise.
  • You own an iPhone 17 Pro or a Pixel 10 Pro: keep it. Engadget and Tom's Guide describe both new models as incremental, and Tom's Guide even suggests the Pixel 10 Pro may be the better buy.

Verdict

The iPhone 18 Pro is the better all-round phone: faster, longer-lasting, quicker to charge and stronger for video. The Pixel 11 Pro costs $100 less and wins on screen brightness, zoom, everyday AI tools and update promise, but its Tensor G6 and battery life remain weak points.
