Quick Take
Key figures
Two cameras, very close
The Insta360 X6 went on sale on 12 August 2026 at $699.99 for the Standard bundle and $799.99 for the Essentials bundle. DJI announced the Osmo 360 II on 3 September, just before IFA (see our pick of the useful tech from IFA 2026), at £509 for the Standard Combo and £639 for the Adventure Combo in the UK. North American readers should note one major point: according to TechRadar, DJI is not launching the Osmo 360 II in the US for now, as its regulatory authorisation is still pending, and Engadget also lists it as unavailable there. In the US, the X6 is the only one of the two you can buy through official channels.
Both use two 1/1.1-inch sensors, shoot 120MP 360-degree photos, offer 14.5 stops of dynamic range according to TechRadar, and have lenses that users can replace themselves. TechRadar's Sam Kieldsen, who tested both, concludes that the X6 is "still the 360 camera king, but not by much".

Where the X6 wins
- Image quality: in daylight, TechRadar found the X6's footage cleaner, sharper and less distorted, and its low-light video has "a bit more punch". DJI's footage does hold more detail in the sky around the sun.
- Battery and heat: TechRadar measured 136 minutes at 8K/30fps on the X6 and saw no overheating. On the Osmo 360 II, a warning appears at 8K/60fps that the camera may overheat.
- Water and durability: 20m without a case, and 60m with Insta360's dive case, against 10m and 50m for DJI.
- Extras: Digital Camera World praises the bright 2.32-inch OLED screen, 10-bit colour, Dolby Vision and subject tracking. Insta360's desktop software can export in ProRes, which DJI Studio cannot yet do.
Where the Osmo 360 II wins
- Price: it is cheaper at every bundle level where both are sold, and TechRadar gives DJI the price round "unless you're a US resident".
- Frame rate: Engadget notes that 8K/60fps is the highest frame rate available on a 360 camera, and SuperNight 2.0 keeps 60fps in low light.
- Storage and repairs: 105GB of built-in storage is more than double the X6's 47GB. Engadget highlights the replacement lens pair at €39 (about $45) and compatibility with DJI's microphones, such as the DJI Mic Mini 2S.
Points to watch
- X6 software: TechRadar's X6 review describes the mobile app as unstable and crash-prone on an iPhone 13, and suggests an iPhone 15 or later for a smoother experience.
- DJI software: Engadget says DJI Studio needs improvement, and TechRadar was not impressed by DJI's mobile AI editing tools, although DJI's desktop app offers a 64x slow-motion mode.
- Sharpness: Engadget finds the Osmo 360 II's video softer than footage from a standard action camera, a limit shared by 360 cameras in general.
- Value: Tom's Guide finds the X6 better than the X5 but says the older model remains the better value for most buyers.
Verdict
Buy the Insta360 X6 if you live in the US, film underwater or in rough conditions, need long recording sessions, or want the best daylight image quality available in a 360 camera today. It is expensive, and its mobile app needs work.
Choose the DJI Osmo 360 II if you live where it is sold, want 8K/60fps, a lot of built-in storage and easy lens replacement, and prefer to spend less. Its battery and waterproofing are a step behind, and US buyers cannot get it through official channels for now.
