When does GTA 6 come out?
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on Thursday, November 19, 2026, worldwide. It is the first new main GTA game since GTA V in 2013, and it has taken a long road to get here. Rockstar first aimed for 2025, then announced May 26, 2026 in May 2025, before moving the game again on November 6, 2025 to its current date. "We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait," Rockstar said at the time, according to TheSixthAxis.
Since then, the date has held. Take-Two repeated November 19 in its earnings reports through 2026, and Rockstar released the official launch trailer on October 15, 2026, a strong sign that the game is on track.
Rockstar has not yet announced the exact unlock time in each region. GAMINGbible warns that the countdowns shown by some retailers are not official, so wait for Rockstar's own announcement before planning a midnight session.
Which consoles can play GTA 6?
At launch, GTA 6 is available on PlayStation 5 (including PS5 Pro) and Xbox Series X|S only.
- No PS4 or Xbox One version. The game was built for the current generation of consoles.
- No PC version announced. Rockstar has said nothing official about PC. Its previous games arrived on PC months or years after the console release, but any date you read today is speculation.
- No Nintendo Switch 2 version has been announced either.
- Cloud gaming: GAMINGbible reports that GTA 6 will not be playable on PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming.

How much does GTA 6 cost? Standard vs Ultimate Edition
Rockstar opened pre-orders on June 25, 2026 with two editions.
| Standard Edition | Ultimate Edition | |
|---|---|---|
| US price | $79.99 | $99.99 |
| UK price (reported) | £69.99 | £89.99 |
| Formats | Digital and boxed (download code) | Digital only |
| Base game | Yes | Yes |
| Vintage Vice City Pack (pre-order bonus) | Yes, before November 20 | Yes, before November 20 |
| Exclusive vehicles, weapons, outfits, shops and a bonus mission | No | Yes |
US prices come from Rockstar's announcement as reported by TechRadar and Gaming Trend; UK prices are those reported by GAMINGbible. Euro prices vary by store, so check the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store in your country.
What the Ultimate Edition adds. According to GTABase's breakdown of Rockstar's announcement, the extra $20 buys in-game content only: exclusive cars and boats such as the '95 Grotti Cheetah and the Shitzu Squalo, matching revolvers for Jason and Lucia, personalized pistols, Vice City-style outfits and tattoos, five exclusive shops and a bonus raid mission. It does not change the main story or the game itself. Standard owners can buy the upgrade later.
Our advice: the Standard Edition is enough for most players. Choose the Ultimate Edition only if you know you will spend dozens of hours in the game and want the extra vehicles from day one.
The pre-order bonus: the Vintage Vice City Pack
Anyone who pre-orders or buys either edition before November 20, 2026 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack, a nod to the 1980s era of GTA: Vice City. It includes a '55 Vapid Stanier sedan with a garage, retro outfits and hairstyles for both heroes, and a weapon pattern inspired by Tommy Vercetti's famous shirt. GTABase also lists one month of GTA+ for digital pre-orders.
Preload, boxed copies and storage
- Preload date: November 12, 2026, one week before launch, for digital pre-orders.
- Boxed copies: they also arrive from November 12, but Rockstar confirmed they contain a download code, not a disc. You will still need to download the full game, so a boxed copy does not save bandwidth.
- Download size: not published by Rockstar, Sony or Microsoft yet. Figures circulating online come from leaks or estimates. Plan for a very large install and free up space early.
- Day-one update: expect one, as with every modern Rockstar release.

Story, setting and characters: what Rockstar has confirmed
GTA 6 returns to Vice City, Rockstar's version of Miami, inside the fictional state of Leonida, inspired by Florida. The official synopsis describes Jason and Lucia getting caught in a criminal conspiracy that stretches across the state.
- Lucia Caminos is the first female protagonist of a main GTA game since the series moved to 3D in 2001.
- Jason Duval is described in the launch trailer coverage as a military veteran.
- The two work as a couple, in a story Rockstar's trailers frame like a modern Bonnie and Clyde.
The first trailer (December 5, 2023) and the second (May 6, 2025) set viewing records on YouTube. The launch trailer of October 15, 2026 shows heists, police chases and action set pieces across Vice City.
What is not confirmed: the size of the map, the exact number of regions, the frame rate on each console and the launch plan for GTA Online. Rockstar has not detailed them officially; treat leaks with caution.
