Two visions of the Android flagship
The Galaxy S26 Ultra went on sale in March 2026 and the Pixel 11 Pro in August 2026. They are the two most popular premium Android phones of the year, but they are built around opposite ideas. Samsung makes a big, powerful "do everything" phone with a 6.9-inch screen and a built-in S Pen. Google makes a compact 6.3-inch phone whose main selling point is software: Gemini, computational photography and fast Android updates.
The price gap reflects this: $1,099 for the Pixel 11 Pro, $1,299.99 for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, both with 256 GB of storage. If you want a Pixel with a big screen, the Pixel 11 Pro XL costs $1,299 and uses the same cameras; we compare it below.

Specifications from Engadget's comparison and the outlets' reviews listed in our sources.
Performance: Samsung's clear lead
The Galaxy S26 Ultra uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, tuned for Galaxy phones, and it is the faster phone in every benchmark reviewers ran. Tom's Guide calls the Pixel's Tensor G6 "seriously weak" in raw processing power and AI benchmarks. In daily use, both phones feel smooth: scrolling, photos and messaging are not a problem on either. The gap matters for demanding games, long video exports and heat during heavy use, where the Galaxy stays ahead.
Screen: brightness and size against privacy
The Pixel 11 Pro's panel is brighter on paper (3,600 nits peak) and has a true 1–120 Hz LTPO refresh rate, which helps outdoors and saves battery. The Galaxy's 6.9-inch screen is simply larger, better for films, games and reading documents side by side.
Samsung's big novelty is the Privacy Display, which hides the screen from people sitting beside you, on a train or in an open-plan office. Android Central calls it "one of the coolest display innovations we've seen in years". The trade-off: Tom's Guide found the S26 Ultra's screen dimmer than its predecessor's, especially at an angle, and Android Central prefers the Pixel's sharper, brighter image overall.
Cameras: closer than the specs suggest
On paper, Samsung wins: a 200 MP main camera, two telephotos (3x and 5x) and 8K video. In practice, the gap is small. DPReview notes that both main sensors are the same physical size, and that the Pixel's telephoto sensor is the largest of the group. Neither DPReview nor Engadget crowns a clear winner; each phone wins in different situations.
- Choose the Pixel for: portraits, night photos and point-and-shoot reliability. Google's processing remains a reference for consistent results, and Engadget praises Instant Night Sight.
- Choose the Galaxy for: zoom flexibility thanks to two telephotos, high-resolution crops from the 200 MP sensor, and video. It records 8K at 30 fps and 4K at 120 fps directly on the phone, and IT Pro describes it as a video powerhouse.
Battery and charging: an easy win for Samsung
In Tom's Guide's web-browsing test, the Galaxy S26 Ultra lasted 16 h 10 min against 13 h 25 min for the Pixel 11 Pro, almost three hours more. Samsung also charges twice as fast with a cable: 60 W, about 75 % in 30 minutes according to GSMArena, against 30 W for the Pixel 11 Pro.
The Pixel has one advantage: PixelSnap, built-in Qi2 magnets that work with magnetic chargers, wallets and stands, like Apple's MagSafe. The S26 Ultra needs a magnetic case for that.
AI and software: Gemini against Galaxy AI
Both phones are full of AI, with different strengths.
- Pixel 11 Pro: Gemini is everywhere. Engadget highlights Magic Capture, Rambler voice typing, Gemini calling businesses for you and the new HiLight light bar on the camera bar. Pixel phones receive Android updates first: the Pixel 11 Pro launched with Android 17. Pro buyers also get six months of Google AI Pro.
- Galaxy S26 Ultra: Galaxy AI offers translation, writing tools and photo editing, with an option to process some features only on the device. The S Pen and Samsung DeX (a desktop interface on an external screen) are unique productivity tools.
Updates are no longer a differentiator: Google and Samsung both promise seven years of Android and security updates.
What about the Pixel 11 Pro XL?
If you want a big Pixel, the Pixel 11 Pro XL ($1,299) is the fairer rival: 6.8-inch screen, 5,115 mAh battery, 45 W charging and the same cameras as the Pixel 11 Pro. Android Central prefers its design and display to the Galaxy's, but concludes that "for most people, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra could be the better buy" at the same price, thanks to its performance, Privacy Display and S Pen. The price question
At list price, the Pixel 11 Pro is $200 cheaper. But Samsung discounts the S26 Ultra often, and it has been on sale for longer: Android Central spotted it at $949.99 at Amazon during the summer.
